The Big Question: is There a Way to Get Rid of Stretch Marks?

One of the biggest problems with skin these days is the development of stretch marks. Let’s face it; they are not nice to look at and they also suggest that one who has them is not really healthy at all.

Of course, stretch marks may indicate that the dermis is not strong enough to support itself when it stretches and tears. But this does not mean that you are an unhealthy person. Millions of healthy people have them on various parts of their body. The question is “Is there a way to get rid of stretch marks?”

The Answer

Although stretch marks have been known to last almost a lifetime if not treated or prevented, there are many ways to get rid of them. Stretch marks occur in various areas of the body like on the chest, the stomach area and around the waist, thighs; just about anywhere that fatty acids can collect and cause the skin to stretch faster than the dermis can react.

When this stretching happens, chances are that the skin will then redden in those areas and the dermis (the middle area just underneath the surface of the skin) will tear and it is those tears that can lead to forming stretch marks. These stretch marks can last for a very long time and if not treated early, they can stay on your body for years.

Removing Old Marks – In the case of removing stretch marks that have been there for a long time, you may opt for lazer treatment that is virtually painless, or you can also opt for prescribed medicines from a dermatologist. These medicines are actually very effective in eliminating stretch marks and you only have to take a dose each day for at least a month to start seeing results.

Prevention

One way to avoid the question “Is there a way to get rid of stretch marks?” is to prevent the stretch marks from happening in the first place. After all, for any disease and condition, prevention is the best cure. Make sure that you eat foods that are rich with essential fatty acids like fish and vegetables. A diet rich with citrus fruits will also help your skin keep healthy and the dermis strong under any stretching.

Skin Moisturizers – If you feel that your skin is dry, you must also moisturize it to maintain its health. Cream products available in the market can help you maintain better skin and also get rid of stretch marks in their early stages. Keep in mind that stretch marks occur the most in people who gain weight at a fast pace. This reminder should help you maintain your ideal weight and will also help you to avoid stretching your skin at paces that your dermis cannot catch up with.

So, is there a way to get rid of stretch marks? Yes, there is more than one way to get rid of them. The best way is to prevent stretch marks from forming at all, but for those who have stretch marks already, you can consider the medical treatments or a simple change of diet and stretch mark cream application for less severe cases.

Pregnancy Skin Care

Pregnancy is an amazing experience. Feeling a new life growing inside, kicking at you and responding to your actions is a truly unique experience. You really gain a new appreciation for the abilities of the human body as your stomach stretches beyond anything you had ever imagined to accommodate a new baby. However, there are definite downsides to being pregnant and one of them is the side effect of all that stretching . . . stretch marks.

What Causes Stretch Marks

Stretch marks occur when the skin is stretched beyond its elasticity. The upper layer stretches and the lower layer of skin tends to tear, causing small rips in the tissue. This results in some rather ugly red marks that feel different from the regular texture of your skin. These will fade to white after your pregnancy, but this can take time and they never really do go away..

Whether or not you will get stretch marks really depends on genetics, the elasticity of your skin and how big you get during the pregnancy. Some women dont grow much at all and have more than sufficient elasticity in their skin to withstand the stretching and remain completely unmarked.

Preventing Stretch Marks

The best way to get rid of stretch marks is not to get them at all. While 90% of women have the genetic predisposition to stretch marks in pregnancy, that doesnt mean you have to just sit back and let them happen. Prevention is truly the best medicine when it comes to these nasty lines. They may be a banner of your ability to carry a child, but really, most women would prefer to avoid them all together. The best time to start prevention is as soon as you know youre pregnant, long before the skin needs to expand.

Its important to only use organic skin products while pregnant. Most chemicals are not proven safe for your unborn baby and its best to just avoid them. Going organic will give you peace of mind and youll be able to treat your skin without fear of affecting the child inside.

Organic skin products are just as effective against stretch marks, if not more so, than commercial, chemical laden ones. Youll find that natural ingredients work naturally with your skin to soothe it and soften it. Not only will you be preventing stretch marks, youll also be promoting softer, more hydrated skin.

What to Look for in Stretch Mark Prevention Treatments

Certain organic ingredients work better than others against stretch marks. Basically, you want to moisturize your skin and enhance the elasticity. A good prevention cream will also provide some healing power to help any existing tears in the skin heal faster, without getting worse. This is particularly helpful if you are starting treatment later in the pregnancy.

Organic stretch mark creams usually use one or more of the following ingredients:

Shea Butter: By far the most common ingredient used in stretch mark prevention since is one of the best natural moisturizers on the market. It also has healing properties to help with any existing stretch marks.

Coconut Oil: A very good moisturizing oil that also enhances elasticity and hastens healing of existing problems.

Olive Oil: Another good moisturizer that helps boost elasticity and soften skin, making it more supple and resistant to tearing.

Any organic skin product designed to treat and prevent stretch marks should include one of the above ingredients for maximum benefit. Often they will have other natural ingredients, as well , to promote healing and enhance the moisturizing effect.

Finding a Homemade Recipe for Stretch Marks

When the skin is overstretched, the scars left behind are what we call stretch marks. These are common in most people. The dermis just underneath the surface of the skin tears as the overstretching occurs. Stretch marks start as reddened areas that will be sensitive and softer than surrounding skin. They then heal but will look like silvery lines in the areas that the dermis was torn.

Knowing Your Options – Getting rid of stretch marks can be expensive especially if one opts for lazer surgery. But one can find a homemade recipe for stretch marks as well and save a lot of time and money by not going to a specialist.

Fresh Marks

Stretch Mark Trouble – When stretch marks occur, you can identify them because they are reddish or sometimes purplish lines just underneath your skin. These areas also become quite sensitive and soft and can either itch or burn if the skin around that area is dry. Now, at this point, stretch marks tend to be quite fresh or just newly formed.

You do not have to see a doctor or dermatologist just yet. In the comfort of your own home, you can get rid of some of the stretch marks by yourself. When taking a bath or a shower, use a loofah or a body brush and gently rub around the area where new stretch marks have formed. You can loosen a lot of the dead cells that are collecting there and dead skin cells can virtually be wiped away. This is a good way to naturally keep your skin color in those areas and not leave any marks at all.

Water Therapy

Don’t underestimate the power of prevention. If there is any remedy that can correct any condition, it’s prevention. Stretch marks occur usually because the skin is not hydrated or healthy enough to support itself throughout the body. By keeping skin healthy, you keep it strong and this is where diet is very important. It’s not always about the food you eat; it’s about how much water you drink each day.

Keep yourself hydrated. A healthy drinking habit will keep your skin healthy and looking fresh all the time. 8 to 10 glasses a day is the recommended dosage of water that you should take and this will ensure that any new stretch marks will disappear and will prevent your skin from tearing when it stretches quickly from sudden weight gain or pregnancy in women. This is by far the simplest homemade recipe for stretch marks.

Mixed Remedy

Lotions and Creams – There are creams and lotions that can help to repair the damaged skin that stretch marks indicate. However, some people have also mixed other ingredients with some stretch mark creams to get even better results. It’s all about trial and error. One such remedy involves stretch mark cream, cocoa butter, wheat germ oil, sesame seed oil, apricot kernel oil, vitamin E oil, beeswax, and vanilla extract.

All in the correct portions, this mix can be heated, cooled, and then massaged directly onto stretch mark affected areas. It is said that this helps do wonders to the skin.

Tips for dry skin prevention

I suffer a lot with dry skin, especially during the cold winter months, my skin goes really flaky and lives on the top surface of my skin and does not look attractive at all!

I tried so many products that would get rid of dry skin and most important to prevent it from coming back.

Thats when I discovered a product called Bio-Oil. not only does it take away dry skin it also reduces stretch marks, evens skin tone and reduces scars. whilst leaving your skin looking lovely and smooth and radiant

the best thing to do is use it before you get in the shower/bath and after you have body brushed as sometimes water can cause dry skin by drawing out all the natural oils in your skin but Bio-oil locks in all the moisture. i then put bio-oil on me after getting out of the bath/shower before towel drying myself. if you suffer from very very dry skin then maybe use bio-oil before going to bed at night as it does not feel horrible and greasy once applied. it smells nice as well as have many uses. it really is a great product id recommend it to anyone.

Another way to get rid of dry skin is to use a really thick moisturizer or to possibly use a moisturizer thats for babies as that has ingredients in the product that keeps skin soft. make sure you exfoliate at least once a week on your face and body as you may think you have dry skin but it could be where you need to exfoliate!

Sometimes if you shower more than once a day that can make your skin dry out as the water could be drawing out all the natural body oils and showering to much could be the cause, so maybe shower/bath once a day and not be too rough when towel drying yourself just dab yourself with the towel or if you can just leave the water to soak into your skin thats always a good idea if you cannot afford all these products that say they are the next best thing!

If you don’t have a budget then body wraps at a good salon would be a good way to go, products are applied to the skin with a massage which is good to stimulate circulation which could be a cause of dry skin, and then your wrapped in an insulated blanket for about half an hour at the most and then once removed your skin feels so silky and soft and doing that once a month could help improve circulation which could also get rid of any cellulite and stretch marks as well as dry skin and prevent it from coming back.

Stretch Marks and Wrinkles: What Relates Them

While stretch marks are defined as a scarring of the skin, wrinkles are seen as ridges or creases on the surface. But can stretch marks and wrinkles be related in a way? It is possible that since stretch marks occur in the area beneath the skin known as the dermis, that the skin above the scarring can also become weak and therefore wrinkle over time and especially if stretch marks are not tended to.

In effect, wrinkles can probably also cause stretch marks because since the surface of the skin is damaged or weak, the dermis is also not protected in any that can lead to tearing and eventually to the formation of stretch marks.

The Common Factor

Collagen Factor – If there is one common denominator in skin and the dermis, it is that they both require collagen to stay strong and elastic. Collagen makes up for 75% of healthy skin and since the dermis is just underneath the surface of the skin, it applies to the dermis as well.

Now, if collagen formation is damaged in any way, this can cause wrinkles and it can also cause stretch marks. These marks become more and more visible as one gets older and as the skin ages as well. However, it is not uncommon to see a young people with stretch marks and wrinkles as well. This really depends on how much weight they put on and how much weight they lose.

Weight Gain – Putting on the weight may result in the formation of stretch marks. Losing the weight quickly will result in folds of the skin, sometimes where the stretch marks have formed. These tiny folds are wrinkles. This happens because as you gain weight quickly, the collagen fibers are stretched. And when you lost weight quickly, the fibers still remain stretched and therefore the skin does not shrink normally.

How Do I Prevent This From Happening?

Prevention – Stretch marks are easy to prevent. All one has to do is to maintain a strict diet that is high in essential fats like fish and vegetables. Hydration is also very important to keep the skin healthy and “glowing”. The hydration will help maintain the skins elasticity so that when the dermis is stretched it will not tear easily. When it comes to preventing wrinkles, this may get a little tricky and more hard work may have to be out in.

Gradual Weight Loss – If you are planning to lose weight, do not look for a way to lose weight rapidly. This will result in the forming of both wrinkles and stretch marks. What you want to do is maintain a solid exercise routine that will help you lose weight naturally and not too quickly. In time you will find that you will have good skin without wrinkles or stretch marks.

Stretch marks and wrinkles sort of work together when they form. As you grow faster, stretch marks may appear from the stretching. Likewise, as you lose weight quickly, wrinkles may take the place of those stretch marks. Neither of the two is pleasing to look at especially if you want to maintain a young and healthy look. But they can both be addressed with a healthy lifestyle and even some cosmetic help like from wrinkle and stretch mark products distributed in the market.

Know More About Stretch Mark Removal – Part 1

There are many people who are more prone to getting stretch marks than others. This includes people suffering from obesity, many bodybuilders, pregnant women and nursing mothers. Also, sometimes the use of certain ointments and skin creams that contain steroids can also lead to formation of stretch marks on your skin. Stretch mark removal is very essential in these cases as they can become painful and embarrassing. Another stretch mark treatment is the lazer surgery. This method is effective for light and deep stretch marks. However, this treatment of stretch mark removal is not feasible for everyone since it is a very expensive method. Moreover, since it is considered as a cosmetic treatment, many medical insurance companies do not cover such procedures. Stretch mark creams are a very good alternative to expensive lazer surgeries and undoubtedly the best and most reliable solution for stretch mark removal and prevention of future reappearance of these scars. However, all these creams are not equal.

Some brands are very confident of their effectiveness and quality and offer an almost 100% satisfaction with the product and a guaranteed refund if they do not do so. You will find many such products available in the market as well as online.

When Stretch Marks Occur: How to Deal

Stretch marks can plague anyone. In most cases, it is the women, though, who often check to see if they have stretch marks so that they can treat and get rid of them early on. This is especially true for women who have given birth to babies. They will want to get rid of the stretch marks that have occurred from the stretching of skin during pregnancy. But in general, people who do have them do not really known what to do when stretch marks occur. This is the reason why most people will not do anything to stop them from forming.

What Are Stretch Marks?

To dermatologists, the condition is known as striae. They are actually scars but they are not physical scars, meaning they are not found on the epidermis of the skin. They are found just underneath in the area known as the dermis.

Weight Gain – When the body experiences a sudden change in growth, like when someone gains weight, the skin also stretches. The problem is that if the skin is not healthy enough, the dermis will tear and this is essentially how the stretch mark starts to form. The final result of a stretch mark is a silvery line and these lines are found in places where the skin has stretched. The usually areas are the stomach, thighs, arms, and buttocks.

What To Do

Early Stages – When stretch marks occur, it is ideal that you detect them first. You will not feel a stretch mark occur and so it is up to you to inspect your body to see if there are any newly formed stretch marks. These are easily identifiable as they look like reddened or purple lines. This means that the dermis has newly torn and that area is well on its way to developing stretch marks.

Prevention – You can actually prevent the stretch mark from worsening and becoming harder to remove. One way to do this is to make sure that you drink a lot of water (about 8 glasses minimum a day) and also make sure to exercise a little. The water is to hydrate the body and keep the skin as elastic as possible. The exercise is to get your blood flowing and also to get rid of any fats that cause your skin to stretch. You might also want to change your diet into something that is rich in essential fats such as those found in fish.

Your Options – If you have stretch marks that you may have overlooked before and still want to get rid of them, there are surgical and medical procedures that you can choose from. One way is to use medicated creams.

Laser Treatment – You also have the option of getting lazer surgery to have the lines removed permanently. This is a pricey option but at least you won’t have to worry about the stretch marks forming again. These are all measures that you can try out when stretch marks occur around your body. Otherwise, keeping a healthy body and maintaining a good diet and exercise routine should help prevent stretch marks from ever forming in the first place.
