Question by Taylor: Old, faded, silvery stretch marks on my hips?
Well, I’m 19 years old and sometime before freshman year of high school I remember having stretch marks on my hips. I’m a thin girl. I’ve read up on these marks for countless hours through the years, and I understand you can’t get rid of them, and I know of the options to help them fade.
The question I have TODAY, is that how normal ARE they? The only reason I’m so upset about them, is because I have not met one person with them unless they are on their stomach from pregnancy. No one in my family has them, even from pregnancy, and not to mention I have an aunt who has gained a TON of weight to the point where she could die from obesity (horrible thing to say but it’s true) and no stretch marks. Not one. I’m a super social person, I’ve met a lot of people, changed in a lot of dressing rooms, and I do plenty of swimming in the summer. So, why am I the only one I’ve ever known with them? I don’t understand when people say it’s so common… I hate my body for this reason! All my friends point them out! I can’t wear swimsuits anymore because whoever I’m with is always going to say something.
You can point out celebrities with stretch marks etc, but I have never seen a celeb with stretchmarks on their hips besides for this one picture of Halle Berry, and even then I’m sure it’s from pregnancy. YES I know there is PHOTOSHOP but they don’t photoshop at premiers and/or candid shots! Those are REAL pictures, and yet I am not seeing these marks? It makes me so depressed!
I’d really appreciate an esteem boost.

It’s okay and it is normal. I have a few and I know other people that have them too. Sometimes stretch marks just come from a growth spurt when the skin had had to stretch quickly. Don’t worry about what other people think, they don’t matter.
They certainly are normal, maybe the reason you haven’t seen people with them is because they feel the same as you do and they cover them up. But you shouldn’t feel ashamed, not at all.
Now it’s really difficult to get rid of them but if you use something like Bio Oil, after a few months, the stretch marks will actually fade. They’ll never fully go away but they will be much less noticeable.
